Meg and Winser

When Winser Came!
by Meg Wilson

In the summer of 2000, I met a dazzling black point bay horse named Winser. I was ten and he was three years old. At the time, Winser had a thick black mane and tail. Now he has a thick tail but his mane is like a mohawk! I first met Winser at my Aunt’s house.

Winser was there because my Aunt has a barn and they were keeping him there to be trained. But they didn’t know I was going to fall in love with him ! However Winser and the other horses my Aunt has are down the street from my house now. The people who live down the street are the Shanks. The Shanks used to have cows in their pasture but when the cows were gone, my Aunt moved her horses there.

Almost every day when I get home from school I go to the Shanks with my Dad and feed and groom all of the horses to show my Dad and Mom that I have enough responsibility to own a horse. Winser is my baby and I am saving up all the money I can until I have enough to buy him!
