Spotted Mountain Horses

Spotted Mountain Horse
The Spotted Mountain Horse Association is growing by leaps and bounds. People from all walks of life are beginning to learn of these gentle, smooth, intelligent and colorful horses. We feel that 2004 is really going to be the "coming out" year for the SMHA. More and more of the larger mountain horse barns are adding a few Spotted Mountain Horses to their numbers.

There are a number of ways that we are increasing the promotion of the Spotted Mountain Horse in 2004. In the west, Shelly Spradlin and Desirai Schild are working with a group of Spotted Mountain Horse owners and have developed the Spotted Mountain Horse Drill Team. They are working closely with a professional equine choreographer in developing their routines. They will be performing at the Utah Horse Expo on March 12, 13, & 14 and will have a booth there displaying the Spotted Mountain Horse banner.

A new way of going division has been created by the KMSHA/UMH show committee called the Country Trail Pleasure division. Country Trail Pleasure horses will demonstrate all the attributes of a true, ambling trail pleasure horse. And the division will be open to Spotted Mountain Horses as well as mountain horses from the other mountain horse breeds. It will be exciting to see our Spotted Mountain Horses in the ring competing against their cousins from the other breed associations. Also, at the World Show in August there will be a couple of additional classes for the Spotted Mountain Horse. There will be a Trail Obstacle class added as well as a Conformation class. Of course, they will be competing in the new Country Trail Pleasure division at the World Show as well.

We are constantly looking for ways to promote the Spotted Mountain Horse. As our numbers grow, so will be the opportunities to showcase our wonderful breed.
