Horse and Rider of the Month

  Lynn Kohl

It all started by dreaming as a little girl to someday own a horse. That was every little girl’s dream, right? That someday came April of 2004. Well it wasn’t ownership, but I started out leasing one of Fun-e-Farm’s broodmares, Rosa. She was great. Terry taught me everything I needed to know about this wonderful breed. The horse-she taught me confidence, and how loving these creatures were. Four months later I got the itch to have one of my own. Terry was very patient, as my husband wasn’t completely sold on the idea. I told Terry what I wanted my picture perfect horse to be. I was pretty specific as I was very new and wanted a horse that would do anything and everything without any worry.

I was concerned that I would not find the right horse. How would I know which one was ‘the’ one? She and other Fun-E-Farm boarders told me that ‘you’ll just know’. They were right. After trying many – Chesney was ‘the’ one. No question about it. While he may have been skinny, as I soon learned every horse has a rank in the herd, but boy did he have the most wonderful gait I ever rode. For a little guy, he sure had it together.

Two years has gone by and I still ask myself ‘wow, is he really mine?’ He has fattened up with lots of love and is better than I ever imagined. He goes anywhere I tell him without a fuss. Recently we came across dirt bikers and he was so brave and stood still while I asked the dirt bike rider to turn off his bike while myself and other riders could pass. A similar situation occurred (within a week) with some guys shooting their guns at targets. He has made me very confident. Terry couldn’t have done a better job.
