Every level of horse and rider can use training; there are always techniques, which may augment and suit each need more appropriately. We cater our training to all levels and requirements of horse and rider.

A horse’s training begins at birth with imprinting. This imprinting consists of touching the horse immediately after birth, so it becomes more accustomed to human contact. This early human touch has been proven to positively enhance training efforts throughout the horse’s life. We engage all foals born at Fun-E-Farm with this human imprinting. As the young horses grow, halter and lead training is begun and continued. The earlier the horses are familiarized with the training process, the more cooperative and successful they become as they mature. Between the ages of 18 and 24 months, the horses are broken, and then initiated with a bit, saddle and rider. Each successive step reinforces the others, consistently and progressively moving the horse to a “finished” state by the age of 3 or 4 years. We add to the horse’s training with exercises in ground manners and the finer points of behavior. We put the horses on the trail, familiarizing them with the environment for which they are intended.

A horse’s training, however, is never finished, but we ready your horse so you can carry on the process. You, too, must be familiar with the necessities and methods of this ongoing endeavor. Without your continued support and training, all we have worked hard to provide for you can be diminished. Bad technique can establish unwanted results in short order. Every rider, no matter how experienced, can learn tips and techniques of training from the people familiar with the horse and its temperament. Your actions and riding style, positive and negative, will reinforce what the horse expects from you, and what you expect from the horse. No interaction with you goes unnoticed by your horse, and it will learn from you whatever you teach it, whether intentional or unintentional. Take the opportunity to learn for yourself, from our experience, what you can do to keep your horse under your control and in top form.

For new horse owners, your training is especially important, just as it has been for your horse. Even if you have already owned a horse, changing to horse of differing gait can present its own challenges. We can make your experience easier, allowing you to enjoy your ride as you continue the training. Additionally, we can cover other issues of concern as well. We can share with you our expertise in grooming, feeding, advice and reference for veterinary care, as well as what your horse requires for boarding. We can show you our boarding facilities, and explain the care we offer. If you plan to board your own horse, we can help you with any questions you have about the adequacy or development of your own facilities.

We are always just an e-mail or phone call away, ready to help customize a plan of action for what you and your horse need. Better yet, pay us a visit, and we’ll demonstrate the techniques for and with you. The best training is personal and one on one, and we are ready to help you establish and maintain yourself. While there is always some work involved any time you’re on a horse, we want you to enjoy your getaway time, so you and your horse can experience a relaxing ride.

We savor the joy of riding. It’s why we’re in the business. Let us show you how to make and keep riding a joy.
